Marks and Spencer Faces Severe Disruption After Cyber Attack
Marks and Spencer (M&S) has been dealing with over a week of severe disruption following a major cyberattack, reportedly involving the DragonForce ransomware. The attack crippled its online ordering system, halted deliveries, and led to empty shelves and financial losses, including a drop in share price.
The former NCSC chief Ciaran Martin described the incident as highly serious and complex, emphasizing that recovery from such a sophisticated breach takes significant time and effort. They note that even paying a ransom doesn’t guarantee restoration, and restoring systems from backups is extremely challenging for a retailer of M&S's size.
