Data of 200,000 Patients May Be Stolen in Berlin Healthcare Cyberattack
Johannesstift-Diakonie is one of the largest service providers in the health and social sector in Berlin and beyond in Germany. The organization has recently been hit with a cyberattack. The crypto attack encrypted the central servers, which were initially blocked from access. It is estimated that hackers may have stolen sensitive data on diagnoses, treatments, and addresses of up to 200,000 patients in the cyberattack on the Johannesstift-Diakonie.
Recently the institution spoke to the press about the extensive security upgrades that have been put in place in recent years and continuous investment has been made in the latest IT security. Yet despite these expensive preventive measures a "well-known international hacker group that has been operating for years” managed to penetrate its network.
