Sandtrap is designed to work with all Hayes-compatible modems that use the Hayes Extended AT Command Set.

For multiple-modem installations, we recommend the use of multi-serial port devices in conjunction with the external modems listed here.

The MT5600ZDXV and MT5600ZDXV-e models are no longer in production. This modem can also be placed into a 12-modem rack ( Multitech ZDXModemRack) for ease of use with larger multiple modem versions of PhoneSweep.

8-16 modem installations Multitech MT 5656ZDXV and 5656ZDXV-e modems (also MT5600ZDXV and MT5600ZDXV-e) Best modem for larger installations. The MT5656ZDXV and MT5656ZDXV-e are the newer model of the original 5600ZDXV / 5600ZDXV-e which are also recommended. The MT5600ZDXV and MT5600ZDXV-e models are no longer in production. This modem can also be placed into a 12-modem rack ( Multitech ZDXModemRack) for ease of use with larger multiple modem versions of PhoneSweep. Installations of 16 modems can use the rack and place the extra 4 modems on top of the rack.

ISDN installations Multitech MT MultiModem ISDN (model MTA128NT) No known ISDN modem supports Single Call Detect. However, this modem will work properly on the analog channel to detect carrier and faxes. When using this modem, in PhoneSweep's Setup-Dialing tab, select "Never Use Single Call Detect" for best results. Note: as of July 2009 this modem couldn't be found in Multitech's web pages.
Using PhoneSweep to scan numbers that are in a different country Multitech MT 5600BA MultiModem II External V.92 modem. This modem is a "World Modem" which has been successfully tested for use with SCD and PhoneSweep. This modem can NOT be placed into a 12-modem ZDX rack. This modem is unusual in that it is the only known modem which can be used in multiple countries by changing an AT command string to designate the recipient country of each phone call. Please contact Sandstorm Support for assistance in setting up this modem properly.
Please note this is *not* Multitech's "ZBA" modem. The ZBA modem is not approved for use with PhoneSweep.

Modems Recommended by Customers Outside the U.S.

For scanning outside the U.S., Sandstorm recommends that modems be bought configured for a given country either from local resellers or directly from the modem manufacturers. Some customers outside the U.S. have found and used Single Call Detect compatible modems made by local manufacturers. Please be aware that Sandstorm has not been able to test these customer recommended modems.

The MT5656ZDXV / MT5656ZDXV-e replaces the no longer in production MT5600DZXV / MT5600ZDXV-e and works identically. Many customers are using this modem throughout the world. Asia/Europe/South America/Asian Pacific Aopen model FM56-EXV This is one of our recommended modems (see above) and can also be bought for use in China, Japan, Asian Pacific, Netherlands, Germany, South America, Italy, and Spain.

Asia/Europe Zoltrix FM-VXP56e2, VM-VSP56e3, and 8FM56K "Rainbow" modems This used to be one of our recommended modems and can also be bought for use in many countries. This modem was discontinued by Zoltrix in early 2003, and replaced by the Raptor series of modems (see our tested modems page for information on that modem).
Australia / New Zealand Dynalink V1456VQE Available through PC suppliers all over Australia. On-line suppliers easily found on Web searches for the modem. 
Australia / New Zealand NetComm 56k V.90 Netcomm puts out many different external modems, the customer did not identify which model they were using of the Netcomm line. On-line suppliers easily found on Web searches for the modem. We have also had a report from a customer using a Netcomm modem model "NetComm V.92 Desktop Modem, Rev 4.07" saying this model hung PhoneSweep occasionally (In Australia/New Zealand).
Australia / New Zealand Lightfax 56k V90 We have some reservations about this modem, as we have not been able to find the manufacturer's home page, and the only on-line retailer, http://SBDirect.HyperMart.net, doesn't seem to exist anymore.
Africa / Southeast Asia Aztech 56K Extrenal Modem model EM3950-W Reported to be capable of performing Single Call Detect by a customer doing sweeps in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. The company web site also includes distributors in other countries. 
ISDN installations (many countries) Multitech MT MultiModem ISDN (models MTA128ST) No known ISDN modem supports Single Call Detect. However, this modem will work properly on the analog channel to detect carrier and faxes. When using this modem, in PhoneSweep's Setup-Dialing tab, select "Never Use Single Call Detect" for best results. MTA128ST is for use in countries outside of the USA and Canada, MTA128NT is for use in USA and Canada.
Austria / England / Germany / Sweden ELSA Microlink 56K This modem is being used successfully in Sweden and Austria to sweep Analog lines on Hybrid ISDN/Analog PBXs. The exact model was not noted by the customer. Since we were able to try the US model of the "Elsa Microlink 56K Internet" model, we determined that in the US it works only in "Never Use Single Call Detect" mode.
Germany ELSA ISDN/TLV34 This is reported as being used to sweep ISDN lines on a Hybrid ISDN/Analog PBX in Germany. We were unable to find this modem on the Elsa site.
