Sandstorm Enterprises' PhoneSweep Telephone Security Scanner Now On GSA Schedule
WASHINGTON, DC November 17, 1999 Sandstorm Enterprises'
PhoneSweep telephone security scanner is now
available to federal agencies on the GSA Schedule, through Planet
Technologies of Gaithersburg, Maryland.
PhoneSweep was introduced in 1998 for security professionals auditing
corporate telephone systems for vulnerabilities, such as undocumented
modems exploitable by hackers. PhoneSweep is in use by security
departments and independent auditors at hundreds of sites in North
America and overseas, including large and small corporations,
government agencies, the US military, and international customers in
Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa.
According to Planet Technologies' Scott Tucker, "Planet is very
excited to be able to offer Sandstorm's leading edge security product
suite to our federal clients." Dr. Ross Stapleton-Gray, Sandstorm's
vice president for government relations and a former CIA information
technology analyst, anticipates continued strong demand for PhoneSweep
by government agencies and the military: "PhoneSweep directly
addresses challenges of securing critical information infrastructures.
PDD-63 and other executive and legislative actions to anticipate and
respond to 'cyberthreats' are a good start, and we aim to provide
quality tools to government security professionals."
PhoneSweep is currently available in three versions, controlling from
one to eight modems, with a higher-capacity, "enterprise"
configuration to be announced shortly. Prices for PhoneSweep start at
under $1,000, making it a cost-effective addition to the security
auditor's toolkit.
All PhoneSweep versions feature Sandstorm's patent
pending Single Call Detect technology. This determines if a line answers
with voice, second dial tone, fax tone or data modem tone with a single
call. Discrimination often requires less than five seconds after call
connection, greatly accelerating scanning.
